I just learned about how I can make the most of my internship. I'm going to put in order from 1 to 12 which one's I believe are the most important. 1 being the most important and 12 being the least important, but still important.

  1. Network, Network, Network. I believe this is very important because this may get you that job in the future or possibly sooner. You can communicate and build relationships in the corporate/professional world which is extremely beneficial.
  2. Set your personal goals. You want to set goals for your future. Setting goals can help you stay productive and get lots of work done. It can tie in with networking in a big way seeing that someone on the same career path as you can share ideas with you.
  3. Find a mentor. A mentor can help you stay on track and it could be anyone who you can look up to. This mentor should be someone who shows diligence in a way that benefits your success.
  4. Never shun a chance to learn more about the company/industry. Research about the company. This shows that you care about where you are going to be working and not just there to be there.
  5. Leave with Tangible accomplishments. Note down all the things you have accomplished and when you are at your job which could be any job make the best of it. Always give a good impression and walk away with many accomplishments.
  6. Tackle all tasks with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. I think this ties in with leaving with tangible accomplishments. If you work hard and complete the tasks at hand you are bound to leave with accomplishments.
  7. Have meeting with supervisors. This could help you if you are doing something wrong and need that feedback to improve your work. Find some time in your schedule to arrange that. This shows your supervisor that you care about where you work.
  8. Take initiative. If you know something needs to get done and nobody is stepping up, you should take initiative. This shows leadership in the workplace and can help you move up in the company.
  9. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Asking questions can be very beneficial to you while you are at your job. Most of the time you should research what your unfamiliar with, but don't be afraid to ask questions.
  10. Get as much exposure as possible. When working don't just stay where you are the whole time. You should explore and interact with others. This exposure could back fire if all you are doing is interacting with others and not getting your work done.
  11. Avoiding negativity. Don't bring your personal life into work that could have you in a negative mood. Also you should dress professional because managers can take it wrong if you don't.
  12. Enjoy Yourself. Well this is pretty simple and easy. I'm going to refer to a core value with my program "Work hard and have fun".

The Best Job

Before coming to Year Up I was working at a farmer's market called Mission Community Market. I would have to say this job was very great. I was a host and talked with local merchants and helped setup for the market. My job involved moving and carrying things such as tables, tents, chairs, etc. The job was enjoyable because it was in a friendly environment and I always had fun talking to people who would stop by. Some people would dance and enjoy the great food that was served at the market. The major skills I developed were working independently on tasks that my boss would assign me. My communication skills were top notch and I was never scared to approach customers. I also did a little bit of work on the computer doing data entry. I was not afraid to ask my boss about how to do it and he found that I was able to learn quickly. Mostly in the workplace I was walking around the market helping out other merchants.

I learned that you shouldn't work with a frown on your face because it could tell your boss that you don't like your job. Working in the market things became very lucid to me. I caught on quick to new tasks assigned to me and found these tasks to be exhilarating on days that were very hectic. I learned that you should ask for work when you are done with a task. It shows that you have a tantalizing attitude and could lead to your future success in the workplace you are in.
