In BC I have applied annotating much more to my reading. Reading has been something I've done at a young age and I never really found it exhilarating. I think it helps me because I know when I go back to what I annotated I understand it better. Just writing my ideas and opinions is great. The best way for me to understand is summarizing each paragraph when reading an article or book, also just looking over it again so I don't forget it.
My advice for someone who is going to read the book would be to find a quiet place and if you want to annotate paragraphs on key things that you feel are beneficial to you. Also since it's a book containing lots of information in each chapter take breaks and don't stress about reading the whole chapter in one day. It's best to read slowly so you can absorb all the information and be able to explain about it later.
To make sure I kept up with my reading schedule I read my chapters for a long time in one day. Since my group could be affected if I don't turn in the work I make sure that I come prepared knowing what I read. When I pick up my book I try to get an hour to an hour in a half of reading in. I would usually read in my bedroom because it is quiet and I know I won't be distracted there. I read about 20 to 30 pages per sitting and I read a few times during the week.
I love the honesty, I don't find the book exhilarating either.
ReplyDeleteHey Seth,
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea about finding a quiet place to go about my reading. It is a really good idea, and annotating helps me retain the information I read. Keep up the good work!

Hey Seth good blog! its amazing how your able to just knock big chunks of readings out "Touche"! Your tips are great, but what are some tips for readers who just become unfocused? because I read in quite areas but i still lose a lot of focus and look for distractions?
ReplyDeleteWell I would say in quiet places if your still unfocused you should try sleeping for a while and then picking your book up again. Sometimes I just need some rest and I'm like brand new when I start reading again.
